I hope to find something nice and wintery earlier in the season. Seems like it might not work out though. Something like the Winter Route on Lone Pine, but that's in condition in Dec/Jan.
Is there anything? I know depending on the year snow can by corny all season but I expect cement at best, and dry rock with some cement at worst.
Early season snow in the Sierra is usually very soft because the temps are low enough not to melt it. So if there is a lot of early snow, the going will be tough.
I would check climbs that are East facing. Sun might be on them most of the day. Several routes on Lone Pine are east facing. The buttress on Irvine is also positioned toward the sun. Routes on Whitney are possible even if the approach is longer. But most years the trail is well broken all the way.
What's preferable is anything that has short approach, is steep enough to shed whatever snow there might be and is facing toward the sun..
