MP Equivalent for Ski Touring

Not really the right forum for this but I figure there will be enough crossover that I might get an answer. Is there an equivalent to MountainProject for ski touring where people post their tracks and descent beta? I know backcountry touring is a lot more about finding your own lines, but I figure there must be some “typical” routes that people follow

I dont think there's anything that really compares. Some things to check out for lines posted though are Caltopo, OnX Backcountry, and Turnsallyear. Occasionally Cascadeclimbers will get some ski focused stuff, but that forum isn't super active these days.

Not sure of your location, but the only sources that come to mind are local avalanche observation reports, and for western Canada, the MCR (Mountain Condition Reports) from the ACMG.

Not like MP but for the Wasatch this is basically all you need: https://wbskiing.com/

This site and I do not share the same mission as in “the dream to help people get outside”. The backcountry is already crowded enough.

So how long ago did you take your oath to no longer go into the backcountry on account of it being overcrowded? Surely a person of your ethical caliber wouldn’t dare be part of the crowd

I’ve always felt that backcountry skiing is really missing a good, lively forum. You occasionally get some threads on the TGR forums or Newschoolers, and there is a trickle of stuff on TAY or Cascade Climbers, and of course the subreddit is just banal trash. There isn’t anything nearly as useful for skiiers as MP is for climbers that I’ve seen. But I would love to be proven wrong.

Should actually make it an official sub-forum like ice climbing or mountaineering.   Definitely a large enough crossover I’d think.  At least during the winter

In french you have https://skitour.fr/ use google translate, in the US I think the closest is indeed https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/index.php

It all depends on the area. In my experience books are typically the best, or going into a ski shop and talking to somebody. Unlike a crag, overcrowding in the backcountry increases danger substantially so it’s better to keep things off the internet.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
