Anyone have a grigri 1 manual?

I've recently acquired an original grigri. I always like to read the manual before I use a device. But I haven't been able to find the manual for it online. Anybody know where I can find that or has a paper copy they can take a picture of for me?

I think some of the recommended belay techniques in the early manuals were unrecommended in newer manuals.

Matthew, I'm sorry, it is in French, but it's the very early one.

Can't help you with the manual, but I have a few friends who use GG1 exactly the same way they use latest GG. GG1 works really well with phat gym ropes.

I'm assuming you're talking about the "classic" technique shown here. https://youtu.be/aSVchbjVKLE

I find it interesting that the early manual doesn't depict giving slack quickly at all.

Any chance of a close up on the text? It's just blurry enough for my OCR to pick up about half the words.

Matthew, send me an email via Mountain Project, and I will send you the heavy file. I scanned this document for you this morning and I thought that you would prefer it in a high resolution. ;-)

Adding the translated text for the next guy looking for this info. Thank you nutstory for the high res scans.

Maybe 30 years ago people didn't try to clip overhead in 0.1 second, as seems to be the style nowadays.

Stand away from the bottom of the cliff and leave plenty of slack, we Euros know.

Good one! A few years ago I witnessed a fall where the “belayer” was standing like 10 meters away from the wall when the climber fell just as she was trying to clip a bolt above her head. She hit two ledges on her way down while dragging the “belayer” across the scene. Resulted in a complicated leg fracture to the climber and a few bruises to the “belayer”. We Danes know!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
