The Mountain Project forum is an important resource and space for the climbing community and has relied on community-led flagging and Guideline #1 to keep it healthy, inviting, and useful. Mountain Project users flag unwelcome activity and it is reviewed using the longstanding guidelines detailed below:
Rules of Communication:
Respect - please treat people with respect and use proper gender pronouns. Everyone here is expected to be respectful and considerate of others, including their ethnicity, sex, gender expression, sexual orientation, relationship type, socioeconomic background, religion, political affiliation, nationality, body type, age, size, and ability.
Personal problems - If you have a problem with someone, do not post publicly about it. This is a place to talk about climbing not personal issues or unrelated topics. If you feel threatened or unsafe, please contact Mountain Project. This is a place for our community to discuss climbing - not personal attacks.
Language - If your post contains content that may potentially trigger someone (e.g. rape, abuse, violence, etc.), state a clear trigger warning at the beginning of your post.
Not Tolerated:
No hate speech - Be kind to each other. Don’t insult or put down other members. Remember that sexist, racist, and other exclusionary jokes, comments, or imagery will not be tolerated.
No sexually explicit or violent material.
No bullying - there is a difference in offering someone knowledge/advice and making them feel stupid.
No repeated harassment of others - if someone asks you to stop, then stop.
Hate slurs of all kinds will not be tolerated.
Flame wars and trolling are specific activities that run counter to the spirit of the forum and may be removed. In general, these are defined as 1.) flame wars - back and forth exchanges characterized by disrespectful communication and/or personal attacks, and 2.) trolling - posting in bad faith with the primary intent of sowing discord or provoking a negative response.
