I’m looking to install a pulley system for my hangboard, but I’m not sure where I should drill the hangers. As you can see, the board is mounted above my doorframe. While screwing something to the existing board would obviously be the easiest, the direction of loading would not be ideal. I’ve seen a few DIY videos where people screwed straight up into the doorframe, but I’d like to avoid doing this, as I’m worried about doing permanent damage/making the door unuseable. Any ideas? I was thinking about maybe trying to find a ceiling joist and hanging it from there, but I’m nervous about getting too close to that return duct.
I’ve never done this but I don’t see why You couldn’t just drill between two pockets on the bottom of the actual hangboard itself unless you are going really heavy on your counterweights.
Here’s what I ended up with. I hung the pulley on the other side of the doorway so the weights wouldn’t be hitting me and it seems to work pretty well. Tested with a -25 lb and was able to hang from every hold on the board, which I wasn’t able to do without the weight assist, so it’s definitely doing something. Might have to play around with the angle and length. Does anyone know whether it’s a problem if the weights are close to the wall? I couldn’t think of a reason, as it isn’t affecting the downward force, but I’m new to this.
