New Mexico's climbing guidebook questionnaire
|
Could anybody tell me what guidebook enchanted tower is in |
|
There is a pamphlet type guide from Eric Ricard, and then there is the old Sal Maestas Socorro guide. Both are out of print. Other than Owen's excellent bouldering guide, New Mexico hasn't seen a new or updated guidebook in at least a decade. |

Ok thanks |

The Jackson guide sucks, is incomplete, and full of inaccuracies. MP is your best bet. |

Guy Agee wrote the one we used. He runs the boot shop in Moab now, not sure if he still sells copies. |

We used the Falcon guide (by Jackson) many times at the Enchanted Tower. It had its faults, but it wasn't any more inaccurate than any other guidebook. The main problem with that guide, is that it won't be inclusive of a couple decades of new route development. |

The most important omission from the old guidebooks is not the new routes, but the new approach to the tower. Use Jason's thorough directions on the MP page. I liked the Rhicard pamphlet because its in color, and very small and easy to carry round. Out of print but you can buy it at Chessler Books . All the classics are listed here, not a lot has changed in terms of 3/4 star routes. |
