I dropped my Clif bar from the 7th pitch of Epinephrine around Christmas, if anyone grabbed it I would love a shout.

Headed to do Epi next week.. Now I know I can go light on food in hopes of finding that Cliff bar!!

Wow. You guys are harsh. Wasn't really looking to get ridiculed, but hey... it's the internet... the nut is no big deal, I was just wondering if someone found it and was able to get it, and yeah maybe it would be fun to have it back, kind of a fun recovery mission

Well I think it was a rather perfect combination of factors that drew the ire.

Your lost gear is worth <$5, not even worth the gas or time to go to the post office or meet you somewhere locally.

You lost it a month ago but didn't post until today. And you lost it on a heavily traveled route that likely has seen dozens of ascents since then. The chances are it's long gone and anyone who would bother to check for a lost+found post probably forgot long ago.

You didn't really lose it, you got it stuck on the first pitch of a route with bolted anchors. You likely rapped right past it on the way down so you would have had all the time in the world to fiddle with it.

No reward. No cash, no beer, not even the vague promise of "positive vibes" or "good karma".

A lost and found violating just one of these principles is open to ridicule, though it will likely go mostly ignored. But you brought every faux pas imaginable together into one post and thus the jokes and jabs rolled in.

Nathanael - yes, I understand you on all counts. I fully understand the actual value of my piece and get what you are saying regarding cost of return, etc. I think a lot of context gets lost in one liners like my original post. For me it was more of a passing casual thought to post (yes, weeks later I get it) and a novelty to see if the power of the internet and mountain project would encounter someone who had been able to get it. The circumstances of the descent actually did not allow me to see or mess with it at all. I am on the newer side to climbing and trad leading, and the nut set is older and was actually given to me by someone, so there was a small hair of sentimentality, but that wasn't the driving force. I can definitely see how to a seasoned climber this would seem trivial and dumb.

I didn't really think this would spin into me needing to explain myself, but it's all good - I understand and can take your jabs in good nature.

As for some of the other comments on here, I get all the good-natured ribbing, and hope some of them aren't intended as mean as they sound. I have been so impressed by the climbing community at the rock and we are all so friendly and ready to help each other out in tough situations -- I have been on both ends and it's a great thing. I'm not embarrassed and haven't lost any dignity by a silly MP post.
