Has anyone ever used one of those coleman combo stove/grill dealies? Can you still use the grill side as a standard burner if you want? obviously one can grill for every meal, but realistically the grill side will have to double as a normal burner to boil water, fry an egg, whatever. or should i just get a double burner and use one of those pop on grill plates? INTERNETS, give me your opinions.

You can and I've done it a lot. It's not as efficient as a double burner but it gets the job done. Works better with larger pans like a fry pan.

I've got the grill stove combo. I've got mixed feelings about its benefit over just a two burner. Some pros: The grill makes a great toaster. You just throw your bagels etc on the grill and flip them regularily. Foil pouch grill meals are awesome. Take some veggies and chicken, sprinkle with seasonings, wrap in a foil pouch, and grill. Usually, I only need one burner becuase I only want to clean one pot, but the grill does an ok job as a burner. The cons: You've only got one burner. The grill isn't very good for actually grilling. It gets super dirty just like any grill, and I never grill on it becuase it will just turn into a mess.

Evan hits a lot of good points and I agree 100%. I use it more for toasting stuff than grilling. Grilling = FILTH. We did some pork chops on it one night which were AWESOME. Then we had to clean... Nasty. Have some serious degreaser available. (Simple Green!) I've since grabbed a CHEAP single burner supplement from Walmart to add to the mix. (I have a propane "tree" so I can run multiple items off a small tank)
All those negatives said, Grilling up some burgers or chicken is pretty sweet and can really improve your mood after days of "one pot" meals etc.

used mine to do steaks and chicken breasts just last weekend at the Black. Tasty. Just took the whole unit to the carwash this morning to get it clean again. Nasty.

Use mine all the time for grilling, just cover the grill grate with some heavy duty aluminum foil and then cut the slots into it, makes it much easier to clean. The grill side also works great for simmering things in a pan/pot.

The griddle/grill side is coated with a non-stick surface. You are not supposed to put metal on a non-stick surface. The metal will be break down the coating and end up in your food. I bring a small Brunton Crux backpacking stove along in case I need a second burner.

the WAX option at the car wash restores the coating on the grill surface. TIRE CLEANER removes the tinfoil residue from the grill itself, if your into ruining the flavor of the WAX.

I have one that I grill on all the time and yes depending on what you're grilling it will become quite greasy. I have lined the bottom with tinfoil and that seems to help some. I've cooked eggs, and potatoes on the cooker side and used a cast iron skillet on top of the grill portion to cook bacon. It's nice to have the grill and the side burner. But as most have said cleaning can be a pain especially the aluminum grill top.

I have one and find that a 2 burner stove is more practical. As others have said, the grill is really messy. My wife and I like to grill vegetables, not just meat, and it is much too small for that. If you want to just grill a couple pieces of chicken, it'd probably be okay. I'd like to get the griddle for it, but it is much too costly. Also, the burner is set a bit too far to the side for my liking. Most of the time we just take our single burner stoves that screw on to the top of a propane tank. So simple, reliable and pack down nicely.
