Mtn Hardwear Sub Zero Jacket Review

Hey all, last summer I bought a Sub Zero jacket and feathers are popping out of the seams. Nothing too noticable, it just seems like that shouldn't happen. I have only washed it twice per instructions and am not one to pop it in the machine on a whim. I had to the other day cause it smelled like a nasty sleeping bag and after wearing it out in public, I started wondering if others could smell it too.

I was just wondering if this sort of thing is typical of down jackets. Or maybe the Sub Zero wasn't the way to go. If the consensus is that the Sub Zero isn't that great, what would be a better jacket to buy next time.

I've actually found the MH Subzero to be heavy, but durable and affordable. I always recommend the SZ to people who are going to wear their puffy as a casual winter jacket, since it's a much heavier fabric. Could you post some photos of the seams? All down products can leak feathers, so it might be OK if it's just one or two now and then.

Almost all down garments will 'leak' some feathers. You can usually grab protruding feathers through backside of the nylon and pull them back inside. That might be a little hard to picture but really you just finese' the feathers back inside and you're good to go....much better than pulling them out which will pull out a big clump of down.

In case you're interested, I actually got this information from this source a few years ago: westernmountaineering.com/i…

I had a sub zero and liked it, but Western makes my favorite down products.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
