Anyone been to El Rito, NM, yet this spring (09)?

Just wondering about the road to the trad area, or at least as far as the sport parking lot.

Where are all the sport climbers? I'm sure the road is fine, it's been really dry as you know.

Conditions on 3/08/09:
-Only about 20% of the northfacing hills still have snow cover, so the mud season is nearly done, barring any further storms.
-Road to the sport parking lot is mostly dry, with just a few muddy rutted spots. Perfectly fine for your Subaru wagons, probably fine for your Buick or Civic, if you're bold enough through the mud.
-Road to the trad area is mostly muddy and rutted, but driveable with high clearance 4wd. On the other hand, while on the rock, we were given a couple of fly-bys by one of those carnivorous nesting birds, who seemed slightly disgruntled at our presence. So, as in years past, maybe we should leave the trad crag alone for the spring.

Thanks Chris, I'm seeing weather coming in to the area tomorrow, just in time for our Spring Break El Rito trip to begin.

Is the sport area prone to Spring-time loose rock from freeze-thaw?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
