Bangkok Hotel Recommendations
|
I am headed to Tonsai via Bangkok in about two weeks and am looking for hotel recommendations in Chinatown or the Khao San area. Also interested if anyone has stayed in hotels near the international airport and has recommendations. |

Hey Bart, |
|
just go to Kho San road and find a place for 3$. If you want to step it up a bit you could find a really nice place in the area for 10$ a night. Dont waste time or energy on getting a place before you get there. This same information could be useful for Tonsai. I stayed at Tiew Khao for $1.50 a night, this was of course an extended stay. The year before I stayed at the Banyan Tree for 3$ a night. Have a swell time! |

I agree with coreylee. If you're intent on going to Khao San, just go and look at places until you find one you like. The area is pretty small so you can cover it pretty quickly. That way you're not committed if you show up and find the place not quite what you expected. |

Oriental or Sukhothai... better views at Oriental and Lord Jims is my favorite resturant in the world. However, the Sukhothai does a great Sunday brunch and has amazing architecture. Also, the Celedon (at Sukhothai) is probably the best Thai food you will ever eat. However, they keep that place super cold... |

I'm with Sam. BKK is the place to go big. My first few trips I went super econo, but as I've gone back I've been very happy to spend and get the best. |

Wendy House is a nice bed and breakfast in the center of town near everything. Some reviews below. The place is clean and secure and reasonably priced.

This place is about a 15 min walk from Khao San Rd, but after all the concrete in Bangkok, I liked the teakwood ambiance of the place and it's a nice step up from the backpackers places. It's near a river taxi stop and there's a cool market nearby: |

A friend of mine's favorite hotel in the World is the Oriental in Bangkok. Sounds nice, but I think Bangkok is such a cool city that you don't need to go big on your hotel to get full value. |

My wife and I spent a few weeks at the Peachy Guesthouse about 4 years ago. It is across the street from the river, so transport is easy, and a couple blocks from Khao San, so you can get away from the madness. In the interest of full disclosure, we had been traveling in 3rd world countries for about 10 months, including the previous month in India, which might have colored our view of what was an acceptable hotel. It was dirt cheap <$5/night with AC, relatively clean, and had a good location. Probably not for the feint of heart, but if your budget is really tight and you have a spirit for adventure, then I would stay there again. |

My general advise is to use the LP and tripadvisor.com |
