Does a great name make a good climb even better? I think it might. Take, for example, Bullet the Blue Sky: Sounds cool; comes from a cool song; is in a cool place; looks simply badass (& is way over my head at this point). The climb itself is intriguing in so many ways, but with a name that good, I think it makes it even more inticing. I've seen so many perfectly-named routes, I figure these guys must stay up reeeeeeeeally late coming up with some of them. Which takes me to my current favorite name: Bullet the Brown Cloud. I fell over laughing when I first heard that one. Perfect in so many ways. Those guys were on a roll over there with Deck Chairs on the Titanic among others... Got one?

GI Joe Does Barbie 5.9+ at Combat Rock: Great Name, but an ok climb I have a friend who boats a lot and always coments about the names of climbs vs the names of rapids. Even he admits that climbers rule the creative side of naming. Almost every river has a rapid named "hell hole" or "suck hole". I'm going to be that a ton of the routes people list have references to drugs or sex; and there is nothing wrong with that!

When I was a kid we climbed a lot at an obscure cliff between Conifer and Evergreen. Anyhow we did a number of what we assumed to be first ascents. We'd get stoned and come up with the most ridiculous names. I pulled out an old Climbing magazine this afternoon so as to help me remember some of them for your reading pleasure. "Schopenhauer's Flight from Reality" "Cheeses of Nazareth" "Cerebral Fluid" "Estrogen cracks" "Barakiner Exsuprise" the original "Mantel Illness" it was next to "Electro Shock Therapy" which had the direct finish "Lithium Headwall" There were many more

I have always been tickled by the route names at Joshua Tree. One of my all time favorites; Too Loose to Trek. A short dirty little climb.
