I live in Colorado, but recently got my brothers hooked on climbing, and they live in Spokane. I heard there was some stellar climbing in Post Falls. Anyone have any beta?

I don't know if I would consider it "stellar", but I have a cousin in CDA near Spokane and we climbed there for a few hours one day. It was nice as always going to a new area, but definitely not a destination type place.

Cool, so...any beta?

It's small. You don't need much beta...not much there, really....but it's the only place so that is something.

Alright, well what about a description of routes and location. Any information at all? I mean, this place isn't going to climb itself.

Marty Bland has a Guide Inland Northwest Rockclimbs, Rusty Balley has one just for Postfalls. Then there is a new one out that covers North Idaho from some guy from Sandpoint. There at the Climbing Shops in Spokane.

Stone Hill near Eureka, Mt is well work checking out. See the old Montana climbing guide, or locate the new stone hill guide somewhere.

I learned to climb there. Post Falls is probably the best spot in the area to learn to climb (MinneHaHa is another ok spot). The climbing is located accross the river from post falls proper in a riverside park which I have forgotten the name of, something like Quamelin park... From the parking lot walk southwest into the forest on a trail till you get to a small valley with cliffs. Most routes you can equip with a toprope if you have some long sections of webbing: 5.6 to 5.12ish. Flusher (11d) and Hey Jude (11b) are classics. There is a good, and obviously so, bolted 5.9 on the east end of the valley which is a good toprope. When I started there was no guide, we just wandered around trying things. I'm sure if someone is there they'd point your friends somewhere good.

Well... technically Chris it is climbing itself. What, with all the uplifting forces of plate techtonics and all... ;-) Dude, there is a great 5.10, The Great Controversy, on your right as you walk down by the Lower Ledge Area (by the staircase). This is probably the best bet if they are just starting to climb. I'll try to post up some more routes when I get a chance. The Marty Bland book is a good purchase for them as it has lots of eastern WA climbing in it too.

I'll be in CO the first week in October and will hit you and Jules up then.

=)

Always improving, but currently best place to find out information for rock climbing in Post Falls (includes a PDF download of the climbing walls in the Community Forest. There unfortunately was a fire there recently so it is closed at the moment, but fingers crossed it is open again soon) Rock Climbing In Post Falls: Explore the NWs Best Fingertip Friendly Routes (visitpostfalls.org)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
