Coffland Point is an outcropping of high quality sandstone visible from Dulaney Valley Road as you pass over the Loch Raven Reservoir. The area hosts a handful of problems in the V0-2 range with at least one harder climb as well. After driving over the bridge (from East to West) park on the right hand shoulder of Dulaney Valley Rd. making sure to go past the No Parking signs. Once parked, walk back up the road towards the bridge. Just before you reach the bridge you will find a trail heading downhill and to the left. Take this trail and follow it as it winds down toward the water, goes under the bridge, and continues on to the point.
On Towson University campus, totally public and free access. Parking may be difficult during sporting events or during busy college class times, but typically not difficult to find. Be mindful of parking restrictions and pay attention to signage around the parking lots. Go down Auburn drive and pass the football field and parking lot. At the bottom of the hill, there is the soccer field its respective parking lot (Lot 6). The boulder is in the far right corner of the lot, and has a large carved tree to the left of it.
This secluded corner of Loch Raven reservoir holds some of the best problems in Baltimore County, and extensive opportunity for future development. The terrain is steep for the most part, but most of the landings are (surprisingly) entirely flat. To reach the Sherwood bouldering area, park at the gravel pullout on Warren Rd. that serves as the trailhead for Sherwood trail alltrails.com/trail/us/mary…Follow Sherwood Trail for approximately 3/4 of a mile - staying right (towards the water) each time the trail forks. As you near the main zone, you should be heading downhill towards a stream and seeing fairly large rock outcrops on either side of the trail. Individual problems may take some exploring to find. The area is a steep, tiered, hillside. See the image on this page for a map of the approach trail.Total approach time from car is 12-15 minutes.
