Paluxy River Boulders

28 Miles Away | 80 Routes

The Paluxy River Boulders are a small collection of boulders located in Glen Rose, TX. It is not a destination area, but there are definitely some quality problems to do if you happen to be in the area or live nearby. The PRB are almost always in the sun, so the best time to climb is in the fall/winter or late evening. The river inundates the River Boulders throughout the rainy season, so they aren't accessable until at least June. The Big Rocks Boulders can be in the river, but only during periods of high rain. The swimming is good, but can be crowded on the weekends. It is rare to see anyone else climbing. Currently there are many good FA's waiting to go up. Bring your imagination and a brush! Park at Big Rocks Park, which is located off of 144, next to the Methodist Camp. You will see lots of low boulders and a dam. The Big Rocks Boulders are the first boulders you'll see! If the park gates are closed, you can drive to the four way stop downtown, drive over the river and turn left into the Heritage Park. Park here and walk down river on the concrete path for about a half mile and you'll be at Big Rocks Park! The River Boulders are located down river, about a half a mile. Walk down the river (or on the right hand side trail if the river isn't dry) and around the bend. Most of the boulders and roofs are located on the right hand side. If you'd rather take a trail to get to the River Boulders, there is one that cuts off a large portion of the river. It can be found by hiking straight back and slightly left of the parking lot. Once you find your way through the woods and to the river, turn left. The first boulder will be on your right after ~100 yards.
