Featured Trad, Sport, Bouldering, and other popular climbing routes and climbing areas Stanley, Virginia.
In the upper White Oak Canyon area. Best to access from Skyline drive. Really nice granite boulder set away from the crowds. Take White Oak Canyon trail all the way down to the second foot bridge (it's an iron bridge). From there continue down trail for .2 miles until reaching a mini waterfall and small swimming hole. Cross creek here and walk past first boulder uphill to the second, more spherical boulder.
Rock and crags found in SNP, the Shenandoah Valley, Harrisonburg area, Luray, and Front Royal areas. For directions to specific areas, see the area's page.
The boulder-strewn ridge just W of 2nd Mountain. A bit of a hike, but some amazing bouldering potential, as well as many fine existing problems. Beta available in the ROCKingham County climbers' guide. Follow Rte 33W from Harrisonburg, passing Rawley Springs Groc & Convenience store. Wind through S curves just past turn-off to Gum Run, passing Second Mountain Road. Turn R into Rocky Run, follow to the end of the road and park in the turn-around loop. Follow streambed upriver until ATV trail climbs away to the L (west). Follow ATV trail to intersection with fire road, turn R and follow to first meadow. Turn L (downhill) and drop over ridge, tending L to intersect bouldering walls and monoliths.
