Featured Trad, Sport, Bouldering, and other popular climbing routes and climbing areas Ponca, Arkansas.
A section of the Buffalo National River just upstream from the Steel Creek campground. Bomber limestone routes on average 100'+. Gets morning shade with sun hitting around noon. 70 Meter rope is a must especially if you are linking pitches!! Hike a flat trail from the far end of the campground for 5 minutes to the first wall. The obvious trail skirts a large downed tree where it nears the river then follows the bank to the climbing areas.
Sunny shortly after noon. Encompasses the bluff beginning at the large white streak that makes up the most impressive section of the wall. Follow the trail a couple minutes past the Fish Wall to the flat open area below the prominent white streak. Routes begin here and are scattered for the next hundred yards of bluff. The highest concentration is at the end of the trail near a large detached boulder flake leaning against the wall.
Sunny around noon. First of the large bluffs on the left when coming in on the trail. Routes are a minimum 100' with most being slightly longer. A 70m is necessary to avoid convoluted shenanigans. Hike 5 minutes on the approach trail keeping an eye out for a trail on the left heading uphill for 50 feet at the start of the main bluff. The trail breaking left is roughly where the main trail begins to enter a large patch of river cane.
