Shoal Creek runs through Wildcat Glade area cutting a path through limestone around every corner. Most of the areas listed are perfect for bouldering but also top roping and short trad leading can be preformed during an outing. Areas along Shoal Creek have been consolidated and listed as sub areas. Shoal Creek can be found located off I-44 just west of Joplin, MO. Feel free to click on the overview maps provided and trail drawings for each sub area for more specific directions.
This area follows the Bluff Trail alongside Shoal Creek, the rock is a chert-quartzite form, so very sharp and too crumbly to install bolts or trad climb, top roping and bouldering are the only real options.The faces are often in shade, and thick with vegitation and wasps around the summer time; not many people climb this area, though you will see the occasional rappeller. Bring lots of webbing for anchors. There are multiple ways to Reach mother natures Crack Parking area, 1.for the locals simply go over low water bridge and turn left on murphy Blvd and the parking area will be on your right 2.For those new to the area, from I-44 take exit 6, turn south on Hearnes blvd, at the roundabout take the first exit on the right onto glendale blvd, follow glendale blvd then take a left onto Jackson rd ( it is a small one lane bridge) then simply turn left onto Murphy blvd and follow it under I-44 and past Outer Rd, parking will be on the right.
Fairly secluded, a 0.25-0.5 mile hike with a nice trail directly to the rocks, the rocks are a bit sharp. Park at the wild cat pavilion and find a low water bridge meant for walking. follow the path that leads to the water, and follow the gravel path leading along the river side, the boulders will be on the left.
