With the database growing ~daily, hopefully, you can find something to your liking. There are many climbers from Ohio presently scattered around the nation. When returning home to our families and parents, you can visit the home crag that started it all. Those of us who love Ohio and have not left, have seen the complete transition of Ohio to climbing gyms everywhere and an increasing volume of climbers in every city to support them. In any case, if you are just beginning and if you are looking for specific types of climbing... you can look up those routes quickly by using the show routes drop-down box. There are many crags to be found ... just look around. Chat with other elder climbers at your local gear shop or local crag. There are many public crags. Maybe go to them, get coffee nearby with others who have climbed before you, and listen to their stories and learn the history of the area. Leave No Trace (LNT) ethics are the goal since everyone will never be the first on the ground there .. watch your impact. Chalk balls are ethically required and simply seen as responsible chalk usage. Chipping routes is destructive and unethical. Placing bolts on a route, closing the route to others, naming it and not completing the first ascent is sophomoric. Digging out dirt to create an area is destructive and tantamount to chipping. Adding bolts without consensus is irresponsible. Crafting a new path through the park can damage the environment for years, decades. Adding bolts without a consensus is akin to ethical treason, instantiation of a bolt war. Putting up a so-called FA post-2000 is normally false. Erosion ... one cannot preserve what is not conserved. A significant side note: climbing in Ohio is still a fairly "touch and go" state. Deliberately deceiving and lying to authorities will bite you and the Ohio community when discovered otherwise. Climbing in areas deemed presently illegal by the autonomously administrated vested authority damages the efforts of fellow climbers who work to secure legal access. There are areas listed under the Ohio heading page that are illegal to be seen with climbing gear.At present, there appears to be much more than a cultural and ethic gap. Climbing is one of the safest activities, provided the entourage has a mutual understanding of ethics, tactics, and techniques. Check various profiles on social media and see how they prey on ignorance and the knowledge gap.Auribus teneo lupum - Welcome to the Heart of it All.//jga/11022024// The Ohio Climbers Coalition is an affiliate of the Access Fund that works to protect and develop climbing areas within Ohio.
