Climbing Near Charlotte Hall, Maryland

Located in the shady a Pohick Creek drainage, a few gneiss, spray painted boulders that make for a couple problems. This isn't a great climbing destination, but if you have no-where better to go, it's something. One way to get there is to park on a roundabout at the end of Wadebrook Terrace (maps goo.gl/vQw5dP), and walk down Cross Country Trail for half mile. It very easy, flat, and paved.A shorter approach is to park by the Newington Glen sign on Lodge Court (https://goo.gl/maps/4M1Himd5VTxRb8qw9). There is a paved trail with one short but fairly steep hill. Less than 5 minutes walk and you'll join the Cross Country Trail at the Culvert Boulders.

Local Bouldering crag. i.e. NOT A DESTINATION, but great for DC area locals desperate to find quality bouldering problems outside the gym. Grades from V0-V12+ with good lines and two open projects. 1st open project is likely in the V13+ range, 2nd is in the V11 range. Eliminates after that.The good: Great lines in scenic location with easy access. The bad: glass, spray paint, other typical city crag issues. Make sure you check out your topout to make sure it is clear of glass, seriously. Update: Spray paint and glass has been mostly cleaned up thanks to Mid Atlantic Climbers! Still a good idea to check topouts and not walk around barefoot.A couple tall problems to the left of the 45 wall that can be top-roped from a bolt. A couple pads will work (25' or less)http://www.potomacmountainclub.org/springfield_bouldering Parking is at 38°45'46.8"N 77°12'23.3"W. Walk down the road towards the river, cross the bridge and stop when you see a yellow 15mph sign (38°45'46.8"N 77°12'23.3"W). Cross over the guard rail on the same side you parked on and you'll see the trail that takes you to the boulder. Boulder is ~200ft off the road.Warning: BE CAREFUL WALKING ALONG THE ROAD. There is okay visibility for cars, stay on the edge of the road and walk in a single file line if you are going with others. Been to the boulder 30+ times and never had an issue, just be smart!

Pioneered during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is a man made wall that blurs the lines between cragging and urban climbing. This area contains a 300ft long stone masonry retaining wall located along Four Mile Run Park with countless potential elimination traverse problems. Rock type varies at each piece of the wall, but much of it is believe to be schist, quartz, and slate. No gear or crash pad is needed since all routes are traverses that do not exceed body heights. There is frequent travel from joggers and bikers commuting along this trail so please do you part to keep your gear contained and tidy to ensure that access to this area will continue to remain open to future climbers. The park is owned by Arlington County and is closed after sundown. From the Weenie Beenie, grab a chili dog and head south on Four Mile Run. After the crosswalk at Shirlington Rd, the wall begins on your left and slowly climbs to shoulder height. The traverse start from base of the wall is still considered and open Project. Head to the first complete horizontal crack across the asphalt path for the start of the Quentin Quarantino traverse.
