Boone Greenway Trail Boulders

2 Miles Away | 18 Routes

While not destination-worthy for anyone traveling to the Boone area (with the spectacular array of large scale boulderfields just outside of town), for locals looking for an after work circuit or an easy afternoon session these three in-town boulders are a fun and easy option. The Greenway Trail Boulders are likewise wonderful for those who are new to climbing, or for local groups teaching outdoor climbing skills. The Boone Climbers Coalition (BCC) meet with the Town of Boone in 2018, gaining public climbing access and permission to place anchors on the tallest of the three Greenway Boulders. These anchors allow local outdoor educational classes to learn climbing technique and also for safe descent off the top of the tallest boulder (downclimbing from the top is a technical endeavor). Through meeting with the Town of Boone, the BCC also secured the Coalitions ability to place climber signage and host stewardship and clean-up events there. These boulders are just above the lovely, paved Greenway Trail that runs alongside the Middle Fork of the New River through East Boone. You can walk, run, bike or skate to these blocks in about 3min from the Casey Lane parking lot. These are also walk-able from the Watauga High School, Center 45 Climbing Gym, and Hatchet Coffee. Booneshine Brewery is a quick and casual bike ride away. From the same parking at Casey Lane you can access the Boone Skate Park. From the paved trail you will first reach the Greenway Block, then the giant Greenway Boulder, and lastly the Greenway Slab. Please help keep this place clean and looking nice. Pick up trash and don't leave any tick marks behind. Be friendly and courteous to joggers and runners along the Greenway Trail. Please consider volunteering at the next Greenway Trail Stewardship Days!Guide/Topo:You can pick up a hand drawn mini-guide and topo with over 40 problems to circuit at Center 45 Climbing & Fitness, just minutes away from the Greenway Boulders. Walk, jog, run, bike, skate or scooter up the paved Greenway Trail from the Casey Lane parking lot for maybe 3min max. The boulders are on your left just past the water treatment plant. If you reach the bridge over the river you've gone a little too far
