Featured Trad, Sport, Bouldering, and other popular climbing routes and climbing areas Augusta, Georgia.
Shady, humid, muddy, secluded, sandy, low to mid quality rock, flaky, water, beach down a trail. Park behind the Riverview Park Recreation Center, and walk the disc golf course until you see a bridge on the right that crosses a creek. when you see hole 7 look to your left, you'll see a lightly travelled path that leads downhill. Continue uphill and behind the water treatment plant, and head towards the wire fence on the right. Barrel 100ft straight through the woods until you reach a small trail. On the cliff side of the hill, there is an access that is quite steep down to a spray painted rock face. Climbing/bouldering routes begin here and continue ~200ft along the edge of the water.
South Carolina has plenty of flat land, but the upstate area containing some of the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, provides a couple of areas with good climbing. Table Rock State Park offers some heady routes on one of South Carolina's most recognizable natural features, and close by, the Jocassee Gorges have some incredible bouldering areas too. The Carolina Climbers Coalition is a great climbing organization that covers this area and over the last few years, Stephen Scoff and Brad Caldwell have helped to increase access and foster a positive relationship with land managers in the upstate area. Most of the climbing in the state is located in either Pickens, Oconee or Greenville counties and fairly close to the SC/NC border.
