Description
One day I was climbing at Valley View East and thought the upper cliff looked like it kept going. Upon crossing over a log I descended a few feet and was blown away by what I saw. This led me down the proverbial rabbit hole...
The climbing at the Rabbit Hole can be described as bouldering on a rope. It's shorter in height, most routes around 20 meters, but be sure to bring your full bag of tricks. Upon first glance you'll see steep roofs, but as you look closer there is quite a bit of thin technical face climbing, slabs, cracks, stemming, mantles and more.
Expect memorable bouldery cruxes followed by good rests.
This place is perfect in the summer. It's mostly shaded in the morning, and full shade after noon. That mixed with the elevation gain make this climbable even on the hottest days. I actually think conditions are beter here when its a bit warmer and less humid than cooler, higher humidity days as it seems to trap the moisture.
Unfortunately, it seeps all winter and into spring. Expect to give it a solid week of dry, warm weather in the spring for the soil above to drain. Once dry for the season, most of the routes dry very quickly. A couple on the left side of the cliff may take a couple days.
If this place was closer to the road it would have been developed years ago, and be busy all summer.
If you’d like something easier to warm up on, head to Valley View East lower tier on your way (less than 100 yards away) for a couple quality 10’s.
As of spring 2025 all of the routes have fixed ropes off of trees above to access the anchors. Scramble up and around the left side to reach the top. Please inspect the ropes if you plan on using them as critters have been known to chew through them.
If you come and climb here please grab a wire brush from the base and clip it to your harness and give a quick scrub on your way down to try and keep these routes clean.
