Description Suggest change

This is a large area of sandstone to the west of Colorado National Monument.

Spring may be the best time to access for water resources. Summer is hot and requires at least one gallon of water per person per day. The creeks are dry in Autumn. Also, there are biting gnats from late May through late July. Scorpions and mountain lions are also prevalent. The roads and trails become muddy and slick during wet weather.

The remoteness makes navigating and rescuing difficult here.

There are many options for route development along Knowles Creek.

Getting There Suggest change

Knowles Canyon: from Grand Junction, travel west on Grand Avenue, cross over two bridges, and at the next stop light turn left on to Monument Road, turn left at "D" Road. Follow D Road until you come to a fork in the road, then go left on to Little Park Road. Follow Little Park Road until it meets up with DS Road, then take a left on to DS Road to the Glade Park Store. At the Glade Park Store, take a right on to 16.5 Road, and go 0.5 miles to BS Road. Then turn left, and it's another 12 miles to the Knowles Canyon TH.
