Description
The Togwotee Crown is a small sport climbing area 3miles east of Togwotee Pass. The rock is volcanic and steep or overhanging. The climbing is on cobblestone. The rock quality varies from good to poor - sometimes a cobble will break. The routes are short and heavily bolted. The bolts are 3/8" x 5" or 1/2" x 4"
Getting There
From Togwotee Pass, drive 1/4 mile east to Wind River Lake/ Brooks Lake Road. At the back of the parking lot is a rutted dirt road that contours the hillside east 3 miles to the crag. The road is level but not drivable when muddy. It's high clearance ruts but I've seen Subarus go for it. Having dry roads means the crag has a short season , like July to early September. The weather on the pass can be 10 to 20 degrees cooler than Blacktail Butte but it can also snow in summer when Jackson Hole has clear skies. From the road, the crag is about 100' uphill. It looks like a 60' high boulder- covered by cobble.
