Description
This is a large dome sitting south of I-80 on a State of Wyoming section. It was used by high school kids in the late '90s for hiding out on skip days. Some routes got done on those days among other fun. The rock quality is not the best, and we never scrubbed it or worried about getting it primed. I'm not aware of climbing activity since 1998, so proceed with a wire brush as needed. The area provides some okay routes away from the familiar areas of Vedauwoo on a beautiful, out of the way dome.
Getting There
There used to be a road that provided access much closer than the current parking; however, the new approach is pleasant, while it crosses the open expanse.
Drive south from the Vedauwoo exit (away from Vedauwoo), and take Hermosa Rd. west, beyond Ames Monument. Park off the side of Hermosa road at a gate marked for public access (there are a few of these along the state land). Parking located at GPS coordinates: 41.13267, -105.41450 is a good place to begin the hike north. Spring can be wet for the first creek crossing, but several okay spots are workable directly north of parking, and there is a good crossing on an old road to the west if it is really wet. The dome is obvious to the north.
