Description
The Ecos region essentially forms the central core of Montserrat, stretching along the mountain’s north face from the coll de Port to the Talaies region, with its northern limit marked by the BP-1103 road.
To the south, the landscape transitions into a series of chains that extend to the great plain from Collbató to el Bruc, featuring prominent formations such as Montgròs, the serrats de la Palomera, del Faraó, el Cabrit, and les Saleres.
This expansive region is intricately divided into several subsections, each defined by distinct natural and hydrological boundaries, as well as characteristic climbing terrains:
• Comes
• Naps
• Roca Roja
• Palomera
• Faraó
• Montgròs
• Ecos
Getting There
Ecos is such a vast area that there are multiple ways to access its different parts. The northern portions of Comes and Ecos can be reached by starting at Santa Cecilia and hiking up the coll de Port, or alternatively, from Can Massana by following a path from Coll de les Portelles to Pas del Príncep and then on to Ecos.
For the southern areas, the best option is to park at Can Jorba—a choice that also provides good access to the Montgrós area.
Overall, Ecos is one of the regions that takes the longest to reach on foot, with hiking times ranging from about 20 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on your specific destination.
South Face - Sport Climbing Areas
The south face of Ecos boasts a wealth of high-quality sport climbing areas, all of which are best accessed from the Can Jorba parking lot—a journey that can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour on foot.
Within the Roca Roja sector, climbers can explore routes such as Cova de l’Arcada, El Castell, and La Tonsura - Agulla del Senglar.
In the Palomera area, notable climbs include El Clot del Boixar, El Faraó de Baix, La Palomera, and even routes around Can Jorba.
South Face - Trad Climbing Areas
The south face of Ecos offers a wealth of high-quality trad climbing opportunities, best accessed from the Can Jorba parking lot—a walk that can range from 20 minutes to over an hour.
In the Roca Roja sector, climbers can explore routes at La Proa, while a little further afield in the Naps region, the impressive Cova de l’Arcada walls await.
In the Palomera area, easy routes are available near Can Jorba, with the Faraó walls positioned a bit further away.
Finally, for those willing to undertake a long uphill walk, the Montgròs-Plecs area offers another rewarding climbing destination.
