Description Suggest change

Great ~6 mile hiking loop off of Highway 2. In addition to the verdant foliage common to Steven's Pass, there are a few tunnels, waterfalls, bridges, snow sheds, and a big red caboose throughout the trail, as well as plenty of signage describing the history of the area. The trail can be a bit rough at times, but it's pretty well maintained and most of it is ADA friendly.

As far as climbing goes, all parts of the trail have potential for route development but any yet-to-be-discovered climbs will likely be found on the lower part of the trail, thanks to the blasting done to carve out the tunnels. As you can imagine, the tunnels are considered unsafe to enter.

Getting There Suggest change

Iron Goat Trailhead can be accessed from Highway 2. There are actually 2 trailheads that you can go to: the Iron Goat Trailhead right off of Highway 2, and the Iron Goat/Martin Creek Trailhead, further up the Old Cascade Highway and NF-6710 (which, fair warning: has quite a few potholes). Both are in Google Maps, but beware of different trailheads with similar sounding names when typing them into your GPS.
