Description
The Mule Mountains surround the town of Bisbee, and rise to an elevation 7,400ft. The elevation keeps summer temperatures at bay, and even prompted a mural in town that declares "the best year-round climate in the world". Once a mining boom town, Bisbee now caters to tourists, hosting an eclectic art scene, and surprising night life for a town of its size. The areas mining history is etched into the range itself with rich copper deposits turned into open-pit mines and its native pine-trees entirely cut down to build the town and fuel the smelter. Both granite and limestone are found throughout the range, with most of the current climbing development on the granite that is visible from AZ 80 as you enter town.
A small number of Bisbee locals have been hard at work developing boulders and sport routes in the area. Specific climbing areas will be posted when complete.
