Description Suggest change

The sand river boasts many good sport climbs on high quality sandstone. Contrary to much of the other climbing in Tasmania, the rock here is short and steep. Sand Creek is particularly popular on cold days as there are many walls that get blasted by the sun.

Getting There Suggest change

Drive to Buckland, on the A3, then turn left on the C318. After 3km, turn right onto Sand River Rd. About 8km along this, the dirt road takes a sharp left land turn, with a rough track coming off it on the right. This is the access road to the crags.

You can either park by the roadside or venture up the dirt track (High clearance + 4x4 recommended). parking by the road adds an additional 5-10 minutes to the approach

Take special care to drive slowly by the farm on Sand River road, this is the land owner and they appreciate you not kicking up a cloud of dust near their farm.
