This area includes routes from Illumination Saddle (SW) to Cathedral Ridge (NW) that can be taken to the summit of Hood. This side of the mountain typically features lower angle routes that get heavily rimed, which can make them hard to climb and protect depending on conditions. The most (in)famous route is probably Beckey's Yocum Ridge. Leuthold makes a good step-up from the South Side for novice mountaineers (or a good ski). The Reid makes a great romp in the right conditions for the experienced climber looking for some moderate mileage.
Most of these routes are approached from Timberline to Illumination Saddle and then involve traversing the Reid and maybe the Sandy Glacier to reach your desired line. There are other options for the adventurous purists.
