Val Malenco

Description

Large valley bordering Switzerland, towered by the Bernina Range, Monte Disgrazia and the iconic Pizzo Scalino. The major towns in the valley are Chiesa in Valmalenco, Caspoggio and Lanzada. Valmalenco offers some of the best rock climbing, ice climbing and Skiing in the Valtellina region.

Getting There

Valley easily accessible from Sondrio following SP15 road. After 15 km you'll reach the town of Chiesa in Valmalenco. From there the valley splits in Val Lanterna on the east side and Valle del Mallero on east side.

Following the Val Lanterna you'll go through the towns of Lanzada and Franscia and after 18km you'll get to Campo Moro where two large dams reside (Diga di Campo Moro and Diga di Gera). This is the main access to the Bernina Range and Pizzo Scalino.

Following the Valle del Mallero you'll go through the towns of San Giuseppe (Ski Area access) and Chiareggio (12 km) where trailheads for Monte Disgrazia reside.
