Description
Granite walls at 17 mile with 15 routes including variations from 5.7 to 5.11, with a mix of sport and trad and room for quite a bit more development.
The trail needs some love, and maybe to be re-routed so it's a straight shot from the car, but after I found out there is actually good granite easily accessible from the road system, I got to work developing and I didn't have a chance to put in a good one. I don't know if I'll be back to Haines, so I thought I should put these up even if the area isn't as finished as I would like so people know it's worth bringing their gear for.
Getting There
Headed out from town, park at the end of the guardrail after you pass the 17 mile sign. Go into the ditch and follow the creek until you pass the culvert. You'll see a flagged trail headed up into the woods. Follow that to a boulder field - For the main wall, follow a trail up on the right side of the boulder field until you hit the wall. For Bear Spray wall, go up and right about 45 degrees until you see a flagged trail that passes 3 small, chossy cliffs until you hit the wall. More walls in the area, but so far trails only go to these two. 15 minutes from the car.
