Description Suggest change

The so-called “Eolus Domes” are the very obvious, massive granite features located just south of North Eolus Peak and below Glacier Point. These two slabs are seen clearly by everyone hiking along the Eolus Trail towards the summit of the 14'ers. Upon first glance, they remind one of the quality domes of South Platte or Lumpy Ridge. Unfortunately, looks are deceiving, and what may seem like great stone is not. Expect crumby, loose slab climbing with chossy features around. Despite the poor rock quality, the domes offer adventurous, exposed climbing in a rad setting.

I couldn’t find any information regarding previous ascents of these features, and by my knowledge ‘Harold’s Sandcastle’ (5.7+) is the first line to explore these walls.

Getting There Suggest change

Hike the Needle Creek Trail like everyone else headed to Chicago Basin. From Twin Lakes at 12,500 feet, turn left, and follow the Eolus Trail as it heads into the high basin formed by Mount Eolus and the domes themselves. After about 10 minutes after leaving Twin Lakes, the trail will pass under the domes, which will be obvious on the right.
