Description Suggest change

The Egg is an idyllic monster boulder tucked away above Lincoln Creek hosting a handful of classic problems with mostly good landings.

The best season is mid-summer through fall. A stream that runs under the boulder from west to east limits spring and early summer attempts. Consider bringing bug spray.

Getting There Suggest change

Traveling east from Aspen, CO, pass the Grottos parking lot on the left driving another 0.3 mile, and turn right onto Lincoln Creek dirt road (FSR #106) crossing a bridge immediately. As this is the only road that branches off from Independence Pass, it's nearly impossible to miss. From here, there are two approach options:

1. Drive 0.2 mile down, and park on the right just before a hard, right hairpin turn. Pick up the trail along the east side of the road, and head due east and every so slightly south or right now and then. The trail is mostly flat wandering among trees and the occasional pile of talus for 15 minutes or so. Head up a small slab, and the Egg Boulder is tucked away to your left.

2. Drive 0.2 mile down through the two hairpin turns passing Lincoln Gulch campground turn off, and after another 0.1 mile park in an open lot on the right near a trailhead sign just before an open gate. Head due north up the hill and slightly east or right aiming for a slab with an easy runnel trending right. Once on top of the slab, work north for a few more minutes trending right until you spot the tucked away Egg Boulder. This is shorter, has less bushwhacking, and is more direct than option #1 but ~125' uphill.
