Description

From Colorado Bouldering Front Range (2020, Benningfield & Samet): "Negatron Boulder: a quiet block to spend time on. Located approximately 40 yards uphill from the huge Mound Boulder. A number of problems grace the sides from solid edges to questionable flakes. The downclimb for this boulder is a down-jump or tree climb."

From Best of Boulder Bouldering (2000, Horan): "Megatron Boulder: this boulder, sitting out below the southeastern slopes of the Goose Flatiron, is located off to the north from the trail leading up to Fern Canyon's threshold. Several other interesting large rocks will be encountered before reaching this big boulder." This guidebook also says "the problems described below were fashioned by Jim Holloway and Neil Kaptain for the Megatron and Bob Horan for the Burgundy and Fern Creek Boulders."

Given the Megatron Boulder in Eldo, this one should probably just be referred to as Negatron to easily differentiate between the two. This boulder is too awesome to not be in MP.

Getting There

Hike toward the base of The Slab from NCAR or from Shanahan Ridge - Cragmoor Rd. TH. The boulder is a few hundred feet north of the Fern Canyon Trail and Shanahan-Mesa Trail junction. There is a social trail that passes by multiple large boulders (heading NW off Fern Canyon Trail and towards The Goose) and goes just to the east of Negatron.
