Description

This country sits at the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, adjacent to Oman. Climbing occurred here at least as early as the 1930s (see MP Yemen thread).

While the Yemen mainland has been embroiled in strife for decades, the offshore island of Socotra (also spelled as Soqotra) is relatively safe.

Getting There

Flights can be done from Cairo and other cities into the capital of Yemen, Sana'a.

To reach Socotra, while it is possible to fly from Sana'a, currently the safest way for westerners are likely the weekly flights from Abu Dhabi. Flights and visas for Socotra via this route currently must be arranged through a travel company on the island. December-February is the best time to visit Socotra for climbing purposes.
