Description
Woody Hill State management area is most definitely not a destination unless your there for the mountain biking or bird watching at the pond but it does have a fair amount of bouldering and scrambling, albeit the bouldering is mostly lowball and most of the climbs are relatively spread out. That said some of the rock is weathered granite that has a texture unlike granite in other parts of the state and the unnecessary need for a pad makes it ideal for combining some bouldering with a mountain biking session (not to mention getting to the climbs is much easier). Being a management area requires orange in season. The pond makes for buggy conditions at warmer times of the year.
Getting There
Located between Westerly and Bradford Village. Woody Hill has 4 entrances. End of South Woody Hill Road, end of Fern Drive, end of Woody hill road (dirt road with not much parking), and the Bradford Preserve (aka the Lacrosse field) in Bradford village which is the preferred parking and entrance for the mountain biking community and also serves as the Westerly High Schools Cross Country teams course.
