Pico Blanco Boulders

International > N America > Costa Rica > Pico Blanco

Description

Costa Ricas hottest freshies!

Historically speaking, even if outdoor climbing in the country has mainly focused on our sport crags, the mountainsides of Cerro Pico Blanco house quite the selection of fine blocks and is now the most recent addition to the repertoire of climbing adventures to be had just a skip away from the buzz of the capital.

Getting There

Look for "Pico Blanco - Entrada a sendero" in the driving app Waze (works best in Costa Rica).
Once the dirt road widens you will see a sign that reads "Zona Protectora cerros de Escazú". Park here if your car is not a 4x4.
In a 4x4 one can drive another 300 meters to a second widening of the dirt road where you can park.

From the parking youll have access to Mundo de Arriba and Mundo de Abajo areas.

For the higher concentration of boulders hike down the same dirt road about 15 min until you reach a creek.
Here is where you will find most of the boulder concentration entering the wire gate on your right. You are now in the Centro del Universo de Pico.

The first boulder you'll encounter there is the Saguate boulder. From here the paths branch in a few directions of your choosing.
Check out the diagram map here for further orientation.
