Description Suggest change

Beautiful black boulders, hidden on urban hillside. The tallest boulder is only ten feet, featuring a diagonal crack. Another shorter boulder may also be of some interest. There is also a separate lowball, for tiny climbers. These boulders have been thoroughly climbed, in the V0 to V2 range, though some harder variations may be contrived.

Named for the surrounding grove of Buckeye, likely naturalized from the nearby arboretum.

Getting There Suggest change

Park by the Waldorf School, and follow the paved Jones Falls Trail past the “S” shaped switchback. Once the trail straightens, near a sewer manhole, negotiate the fence on the left and head downhill. Boulders will be visible when the leaves are off the trees.

Alternatively, take the Ravine Trail from Cylburn Arboretum, crossing the stream at the bottom. Boulders are on hill above stream.
