Description Suggest change

Mount Gandalf is one of the mountains in the Tolkien range; its summit lies just 1.6 km west of the Brian Waddington hut. It has a large granite face directly east of the north-south summit ridge, and another face has been climbed further east, at the end of a west-east ridge. A large summit boulder provides a final challenge to any summit attempt.

Getting There Suggest change

From the Brian Waddington hut, follow a marked trail for 500m towards the nearby upper lake (elev 1770m). About 120 m before the upper lake, a fairly well-trodden trail branches right and climbs steeply through the forest and breaks into the alpine shortly after. Follow this trail with Gandalf on your left until you reach your desired rock wall.
