Description Suggest change

The main bouldering section for this area. It's fairly small with a few medium-sized boulders and one large boulder, but it has quite a few developed routes and projects. If you're looking for a relaxed, secluded bouldering spot, this is absolutely the place, as most hikers/climbers/etc. will be heading down the main trail to Nine Corner Lake about a mile down the road. This area is also far enough from the road that it's relatively quiet, though you can make out the faint sound of cars passing on Route 29a.

Getting There Suggest change

Pull off route 29a just west of the S-curve next to these boulders, and park right at the end of the guard-rail, by a small rock cairn and a Forest Preserve sign cut into a dead tree. Find a set of small boulders on the north side of the road. From there follow a developed trail north-east towards the Basecamp boulder, which is just out of sight of the road.

**IMPORTANT** The trail to the Basecamp and Summit boulders is now marked with hi-viz orange ribbons and markers spaced every 20-30 feet. This makes it SIGNIFICANTLY easier to find your way to the Summit Boulders, and for me to work on developing the trail!

Head through the landing zone for the Basecamp boulder and up the right side of the hill just to the right of it, then again around the right side of a small cliff, taking care to look for orange hi-viz markers and ribbons on trees along the way. Follow the trail markers North West to 4 squat boulders which look like a single boulder cut up into 4 pieces. From there the boulders should be visible.

If you lose this second trail (which isn't super visible) trend left up the hill until you see the boulder cluster, or use the GPS coordinates provided -- Lat: 43.18190, Lon: -74.56460. The boulder cluster is very close to the road, so if you've been hiking for more than 5 minutes you're probably going the wrong way.
