Tsunami Circuit

California > Lake Tahoe > I-80 Corridor > Donner/Truckee… > Castle Peak

Description

The upper section of castle peak with a high concentration of quality problems. In addition to what feels like normal castle peak bouldering there are walls with some fairly long problems on them. Doesn't see too much traffic as the road to get there is rather intense, but is worth the trip. The main walls face south and see lots of sun so a cloudy or chilly day is recommended when coming here but there are certainly places to chase shade further on past the main walls.

Getting There

From the main parking lot where the gate is go up the dirt road as for the main treasure cove area but instead of going left at the fork and going to the main lot continue right and follow the main road that is marked on google maps for about 1.1 miles from the split previously mentioned. You will pass the left turn for middle castle peak do not take this and continue on the road until near the end. There are orange reflectors on trees to keep you on the main road these are good to follow and be sure you are going the right way. Park in either the first lot with the trailhead that starts in one of the spots surrounded by some small trees or keep going to a small clearing with more room and nearby slabs. The road goes up a steep rocky hill here and this should be the sign that you have arrived. A 4WD car with good clearance is required for this road. There are several spots where the road is as bad or worse as the beginning section of the road after the gate with not many places to turn around.

From the first parking lot follow the path to the south that is lined with stones this will take you to the first set of cliffs.
