Description
The Nepaug state forest is a beautiful area in southern New Hartford home to many outdoor activities for all to enjoy. As of 2021, there is one main cliff here (Campsite Crag) along with several obscure boulders; all of which exist in the eastern portion of the park on the slope facing toward the Farmington River. Main parking is next to The Farmington River and it makes for a perfect after climb dip! There is also ample mtn biking in the forest if you are into that. Be mindful of Bikers + hikers and keep an eye on signage as there is logging in the area. The park may hold more climbing opportunities to be discovered. Be respectful to the forest and work to minimize climber impact to the area.
Getting There
From Litchfield Turnpike (202) turn onto ramp road and travel north. Ramp road turns into river road when the pavement switches to dirt. Travel on this dirt road for a little more than a mile and park in the large mtn bike/river access parking area/pull off; the parking is just about where the south flowing Farmington River makes a 90deg turn to the east. From here reference sub areas for approaches.
