Description
This excellent crag sits high above Pine Creek at an elevation of nearly 9,500 feet, and faces northwest, making it an outstanding summer hang with lots of shade from early morning into early afternoon. The climbing is on everything from vertical or slightly less than vertical granite with cracks and dikes, to roofs and overhangs. Many single-pitch climbs to choose from as well as longer routes ascend the buttresses. If you want to keep the pack light, just a set of draws will give you many great climbs to do, but if you pack some cams as well, other mixed routes are worth doing also.
Not much flowing water at the crag unless you want to melt snow, but early season you will cross a handful of creeks where you can replenish on the way up or on the way back down. Have a filter ready.
Comprehensive information about this crag can be found in Pine Creek Climbing Guide.
Getting There
Park at the Pine Creek pack station at the end of the road. Approximately 2.8 miles up the Pine Creek Pass Trail the wall will appear on the left a mere 30 feet off the trail. No cross-country needed!
The trail can be very sunny even though the climbing is in the shade. Best to leave early.
