Description
A small state park at the Southern base of the MIGHTY Three Ridges off of Cub Creek Rd. Created years ago to regenerate the American Chestnut Tree. A (mostly failed) nursery of 40 acres exists on the approach. Pretty cool views. Quartz/granite outcrops as are literally everywhere the farther up you go in most directions. No trails. Most of the rock flows steadily up the gorge past the 3 Eggheads. I've been too lazy to explore further up but if you're motivated for virgin bloc, you will find it.
Getting There
Coordinates are for 3 Eggheads. To get to 3 Eggheads: Park at the Lesesne State Forest trailhead/pulloff off of Cub Creek Rd. (35-40min from cville, past devils backbone but before wintergreen). Google it. Hike up the service roads,
turn left towards the main orchard at the first intersection heading into the meadow. Keep dead straight on that trajectory through until you hit a (stunning) stream filled with rocks and cultural sites. Take the stream North for half a mile tops. You will see three boulders 20 ft above the riverbank on your right.
