Description
This small set of boulders is situated right along the old Milwaukee Railroad Grade on the way up the St Joe River. It gets a fair bit of traffic from campers, 4 wheelers, and the occasional logging truck coming by on this dirt road, but people are generally polite about slowing down to not dust you out. Nevertheless, this does make for a pretty dirty wall most of the time, although it's nearly always in the shade except for the early morning and late evening, so it makes for a nice spot chill spot to climb in the summer, especially because you're vehicle is only steps away and you can always scramble down the bank to the river for a nice dip. The rock quality here is pretty lacking, it's some sort of sediment that is only exposed because of the railroad cutout, but the draw here is convenience: it's just a couple miles out of St Maries city limits and still has cell phone service too (for most carriers, i think T Mobile is screwed in the SM area in general). The main area that has been developed for some bouldering so far ranges from slab to vert, but some other potential over-hung lines exist just a short walk down either direction of the road.
Getting There
Leave St Maries on College Ave/State Highway 3 and drive for half a mile, then take a left on Milwaukee Road. Proceed on Milwaukee for ONE FULL MILE before you turn left and cross the Railroad Tracks. Gmaps says to turn left onto Riverdale Dr at .6 mile, but this road doesnt connect through anymore and hasn't for like 40 years. (and it's actually my driveway so plz don't lol). After crossing the RR tracks, drive about 2 miles on this road (you'll pass some softball fields on the left and then the Stimson Lumber Mill on the hill to the right) and you'll come upon the boulders on the right hand side of the road.
