Description
Glacier Basin includes camp sites and ends the maintained trail approach to the Mount Rainier's Camp Schurman, summit routes departing Schurman, plus Mount Ruth and Steamboat Prow. Off the Glacier Basin trail a mile before reaching Glacier Basin is a right hand turnoff which lead to five hiking peaks, Burroughs Mountain, Skyscraper Mountain, Mount Fremont, Antler Peak and Dege Peak.
Getting There
The Glacier Basin trail starts at the White River Campground. The White River Campground can be reached via WA-410, exiting at Sunrise Park Rd/White River Rd, then turning left at White River Road and continuing on until reaching the White River Campground Ranger Station and parking in the hikers and climbers parking lot. The trail-head is a short walk east through the campground and well marked. The Glacier Basin trail is just under three miles with a gentle 1200 foot elevation gain until you reach the camping area and the end of the maintained trail. There is a "bath room" here, which consists of two elevated open air thrones.
