Description Suggest change

A few awesome blocks below the Elysian Buttress. Rock is composed of Dacite and hosts some excellent boulder problems, mostly in the upper range of height and difficulty. The massive Legion boulder is hard to miss and is arguably the best boulder on Mt. Elden. There are a few other boulders in the area and certainly potential for additional problems. The area is on an east aspect and gets plenty of sun until it disappears behind Mt. Elden in the afternoon. The area is more on the remote side so be sure to bring lots of foam!

Getting There Suggest change

Drive north out of Flagstaff on Highway 89A to Elden Springs Road. Turn left here and travel past houses on your right, over a cattle guard to FS road 9180. Turn left on FS road 9180 and drive south for approximately ten minutes. Take the first right hand fork in this road and park at the dead end. Follow the AZ trail out of the parking area south until a clearing appears on your right. Continue following the trail for approximately 10 minutes and trend up towards the buttress eventually hiking in a large drainage. There are cairns place sporadically but you should see the massive legion boulder up on the right side of the drainage. Total hiking time is approximately 40 minutes with pads and gear.
