Tunnel 1 closure
For more details visit: jeffco.us/open-space/alerts…
The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves
Description
This subarea has some easier climbs and some harder boulder problems with a short approach and are low down the canyon. There are two main boulders that are dug out with some interesting lines and some additional boulders. Lots of climbs have been chalked and done here, but they just have not been documented. This is a nice winter area as the boulders get sun most of the day.
Per Nik Vukovich: this is a really fun, new climbing area below the Canal Zone routes along the Gateway Canyon Trail that just opened at the East mouth of Clear Creek Canyon.
A lot has been developed recently, but there has been no information on who has done what and when in the area. All FAs will be listed as purportedly. If someone has information on who has done what, please share that info, and we will update appropriately.

Getting There
Park at the Tunnel 1 Trailhead, and hike down creek for about 5-10 minutes.
Per Nik Vukovich: from the east entrance to Clear Creek Canyon, drive for about 2 minutes, and just before you go through tunnel 1, park at the newly developed parking lot for the Gateway Canyon Trailhead. From there, the majority of the bouldering is about a 5 minute walk on the newly paved sidewalk. Walk from the parking down the path, turn left, and cross over the bridge. Walk about 3 more minutes, and the first large boulder will appear on your left. There is no way you can miss it.
